Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

I just got back from the cinema having seen this movie and came out wondering, what on earth was that about? Did I miss something there? I was intending to write, 'Don't read this if you don't want spoilers,' but I came out of the movie non the wiser about what was actually going on. In three words, I shall sum it up thus: aliens, skulls and evil Russians (edit: just noticed, that's more than three!). Or, as I like animals, I could summarise it as ... monkeys, termites and groundhogs.

It was perhaps a bit like Doctor Who, not meant to be taken too seriously (I hope not!) but it was complete nonsense, in my opinion. I went to see this for Veggie Hubby, who agreed that it was completely pointless. In return for making me sit through this, VH shall have to come and see a film he really doesn't want to see with me, like the new Sex and the City movie .... haha, revenge will be sweet!

My rating: 4/10 (as it was enjoyable in it's silliness at times).

  1. The change of theme, as I pointed out in VH's blog, was "justified" as a reflection of the pulp fiction of the respective time-frames. The lack of plot, on the other hand, seems to be a symptom of Lucas revisiting old cash-cow movie series 20 years too late.

  2. *sigh* I didn't get to see it. The Hubs wasn't feeling himself tonight and we napped instead. haah we're going to go see it on Saturday! I'm sad you didn't enjoy it though... hopefully I'll understand it! haha

  3. PJ- Maybe the sci-fi theme was justified, but wasn't well exectuted. I'd agree about the lack of plot. At least there was a good cast.

Shop Girl - Let me know what you think when you do get to see it. You might like it, I was chatting to my colleages today and they all enjoyed it although thought it was completely unrealistic and lacks plot.

  4. Yeah, it's pretty average and recycled. There are a few really good things about it though: an absolutely perfect casting, the Cold War setting (with the allusions to McCarthyism and paranoia of the time, which were criminally underdeveloped) and the acknowledgement that Indiana Jones is getting old.
