Eating in

It has been in the news recently that due to the credit crunch people prefer to eat a restaurant-style meal in rather than a meal out. Domino's pizza has soaring profits (but I wouldn't have a Domino's pizza, it is far better to get a supermarket one in my opinion- cheaper, healthier, tastier and more ethical). VH and I bought a new M&S promotion - 2 dine for £10. This includes a main meal, side dish, dessert and bottle of wine. We chose roast sweet potato cakes with a mint and yoghurt dressing (actually, there was no choice as it was all that was left!) and roast Mediterranean vegetables with a balsamic vinegar dressing. For dessert we had profiteroles but saved half for tomorrow. We also had a French wine called 'Froglet'... I find the name quite amusing. It was a tasty meal, and good value. We are lucky to have an M&S just around the corner from us, but we rarely go in there as it is generally just ready meals these days, which I suppose is kind of what we had tonight. I have also added a picture of some pretty carnations that VH bought me the other day. Flowers that are nicer than the ones in Zizzi.

  1. That all looks lovely! Our nearest M&S now is Jersey.

  3. It does all look lovely, actually... It's not just interesting veggie food, it's M&S interesting etc.
Glad to see you're blogging again - are you still stewing in your flat? All the best with the hay fever. Alex has to take Cetirizine daily (amongst other potions) to cope with his allergies, the lamb.

  4. Thanks, I like to blog but sometimes don't have much to say. Yes, I'm still stewing in my flat and also freezing with the air con in my office. There is no middle ground. Poor little Alex, it must be terrible with all those allergies, hopefully as he gets older they will improve. I don't have hayfever anymore, thank goodness.

  5. Mmmm that meal looks delish!

We're obsessed with Japanese cuisine right now. If we are buying food (aside from a market or grocery store) it's usually some type of sushi. haha

  6. I have noticed a much bigger obsession in Canada with sushi than in the UK. In Montreal, sushi bars kept appearing all the time when I was there in 2005. I quite like vegetarian sushi from time to time especially as it's very healthy.
