First day

I started my new job today. I made it there and back without getting lost so I am now feeling very pleased with myself... It looks like it will be quite a varied job, and the people seem welcoming and friendly but I am just feeling totally exhausted after a stressful first day. The best part was coffee in the morning and Starbucks at lunchtime, perhaps that says something? This is the slightly frustrating thing about writing an open blog, in that I can't be that specifc & talk about it much.

On another note, a personal irritation of mine... Cyclists on the road. I am all for cycling, but riding a bike is too much of a hazard on the road. In narrow roads, it is difficult to overtake a cyclist, whilst also avoiding traffic going the other way, so you have to crawl along behind them. Before I could drive, I used to find it scary being a cyclist on the road, but now I can drive and no longer own a bike (since both of mine were stolen within the space of a year) I find cyclists scary. In France they are even worse as they can often be seen without wearing cycle helmets on main roads. I think that more cycle lanes should be put in place, as it would be a safer world for cyclists then.

As I am in the mood for posting random things, when I was very young I used to sing the following song to my sister all the time! We were watching old home videos together recently, and I just couldn't stop singing it. I never realised that I was such a big Elvis fan when I was young!

  1. Horray for not getting lost! If you think it's hard to keep those details quiet..try attempting to keep your life completely anonymous! It's RIDICULOUSLY hard..and I have a feeling that many a person has already figured me out..LOL!

I'm TERRIFIED of people cyling..there have been some really bad accidents around here in the last few years involving cars and cylists...and it scares me to DEATH to drive when they're right on the road..I just always slow down and crawl behind them until it's absolutely without a doubt safe to manouver around them..it's way too scary! Bike lanes should most definitely be mandatory!

  2. I didn't realise Elvis sang it so slooowly.. I didn't tell you I'm learning this on guitar (my first guitar lesson). Kinda takes the pressure off at this speed.

  3. Congrats on surviving your first day on the new job!!!

And the whole cyclist / motorist situation makes me nervous as well.. only we're on the other end of the spectrum! As we don't own a vehicle at the moment, the Hubster depends on his bike for transportation in the summer and he was actually hit by a stupid driver last year. Thankfully the Hubs was watching and saw it coming and was able to minimize his fall and wasn't hurt badly, but it's still pretty scary.

  4. Anonymous- So you're not so anonymous anymore? At least I shall never find you out. I'm glad that I'm not the only one scared of hitting a cyclist. An interesting thing I have discovered about blogging is finding people who agree with you about things that you believe are quite unique to yourself (like you and sock hating!)

Frankofile- I didn't realise you were learning the guitar, that's great. I find Elvis' version too slow and boring to be honest (prefer mine, haha).

Shop Girl* - Thanks, I managed to not get lost by going on a trial journey on Sunday which I did lost on! Your poor hubby, I think he should avoid roads wherever possible!
